Ostapenko on the charge, beats Kalinina to reach Eastbourne semi-finals

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 8 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Eastbourne International by winning against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina 6-3, 6-2 at Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Thursday afternoon.

Ostapenko, ranked No 14, will play Italian Camila Giorgi, the No 12 seed, next.

In the previous rounds, the Latvian defeated Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (6-4, 6-4) and American Madison Keys, the No 11 seed (6-3 ret.).

Kalinina, ranked No 36, won against Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-0, 2-1 ret.), Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed (3-6, 7-5, 6-4) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 16 seed (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
