Japan Open: Parry books spot in last eight against Tauson
The Frenchwoman defeated Greet Minnen 6-4, 6-2 in the second round on Thursday
Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 7 seed, won against Belgian Greet Minnen 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Japan Open at the Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka on Thursday.
Parry, ranked No 52, will play Dane Clara Tauson next. It will be the first meeting between the 220year-old Parry and 21-year-old Tauson on the WTA Tour. It is also Parry’s first quarter-final on the tour since reaching the semi-finals in Palermo in July.
Ahead of her win today, the 22-year-old Frenchwoman defeated Russian Erika Andreeva (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1).
Minnen, ranked No 95, beat Canadian wildcard Bianca Andreescu (6-3, 6-0) in the previous round of the tournament.
