Osaka crashes out of Indian Wells WTA in straight sets to Osorio

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka crashed out of the Indian Wells WTA 1000 in a straight sets loss to Camila Osorio 6-4, 6-4 in California on Wednesday night.

Osorio becomes the first Columbian woman in history to defeat a former world No 1.

Osaka had not played since the 2025 Australian Open, where she suffered an abdominal strain. Osorio had also been inactive in February, but looked the much sharper of the two players.

The Columbian’s finishing was the difference between the two, winning 12 of the last 14 points to close out the first set, and denying Osaka three break point chances at 0-40, 5-4 in the second.

“It’s crazy for me,” Osorio said after the match. “It’s a dream come true.”

Osorio, ranked No 53, will play No 22 seed Clara Tauson next.
