Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle beat German Tamara Korpatsch, the No 8 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Open Internacional Femení Solgironès on Thursday.
Carle, ranked No 151, will play the winner of the match between Russian Erika Andreeva and Swiss Jil Teichmann, the second seed, next.
In the previous round, the Argentinian won against Spanish qualifier Lucia Cortez Llorca (6-2, 6-0).
Korpatsch, ranked No 118, won against Spanish wildcard Angela Fita Boluda (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round.
