Hungarian Panna Udvardy beat Mexican Renata Zarazua, the No 6 seed, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) to move into the last four of the Open delle Puglie on Friday afternoon.
Udvardy, ranked No 132, will face the winner of the match between Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 5 seed, and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 9 seed, next.
The Hungarian edged out Italian wildcard Giorgia Pedone (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) and won against Ukrainian qualifier Anastasiya Soboleva (6-0, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds, Zarazua, ranked No 102, won against Kazakh qualifier Zhibek Kulambayeva (6-3, 6-2) and Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska (6-1, 6-2).
