Hungarian Reka Luca Jani edged out Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 5 seed, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) to reach the semi-finals of the Open delle Puglie on Friday afternoon.
Jani, ranked No 133, will face the winner of the match between Hungarian Panna Udvardy, the top seed, and Austrian Julia Grabher next.
The Hungarian benefited from the abandonment of Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (5-5) and defeated Romanian Alexandra Cadanțu-Ignatik (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Cocciaretto, ranked No 99, won against Cypriot Raluka Serban (7-6 (5), 6-3) and Sara Errani (6-3, 6-0).
