No 3 seed Vondrousova withdraws from WTA Adelaide
Former Wimbledon champion withdrew from the WTA 500 event due to a hip injury
Marketa Vondrousova, the No 3 seed, withdrew from the WTA Adelaide Open this afternoon.
The world No 7 and 2023 Wimbledon champion withdrew just hours before her first round match in Australia, citing a hip injury as the reason for her last minute withdrawal.
Taylor Townsend will take the Czech’s place, facing off against qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich this evening.
Vondrousova has had a tumultuous past four months, winning just one match since making the quarter-finals of the US Open in September.
