Ningbo Open: Kasatkina into sixth final of 2024 after Badosa retires through illness
Daria Kasatkina benefited from the forfeit of Paula Badosa (6-4) on Saturday afternoon and will play the winner of the match between Russian Mirra Andreeva and Karolina Muchova in the final
Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 5 seed, moved into the final of the Ningbo Open after Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 8 seed, withdrew after one set of their match on Saturday afternoon at the Yinzhou Tennis Center.
Kasatkina, ranked No 11, will face the winner of the match between Russian Mirra Andreeva and Karolina Muchova next. The Russian led 6-4 before Badosa decided to call it a day, seemingly suffering from ill health.
In the previous rounds of the Ningbo tournament, the Russian won against Katerina Siniakova (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) and edged out Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (6)).
Badosa, ranked No 14, beat Russian Diana Shnaider (4-6, 6-3, 6-3), Chinese wildcard Xiyu Wang (6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-2) and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
