Ons Jabeur brushes aside Shnaider to win the Ningbo Open
Ons Jabeur beat Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1 in the final to win the Ningbo Open and clinch her second title of the season.
Ons Jabeur has won the Ningbo Open title by defeating Russian Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1 in the final.
It is the Tunisian’s second title of the season, having also taking the trophy on clay in Charleston back in April.
Jabeur had far too much quality for her lower-ranked opponent, displaying her full array of creativity and variety to leave the Russian floundering in what was the biggest match of her career.
In the previous rounds, Jabeur, ranked No 7, beat Frenchwoman Diane Parry (7-6 (3), 7-5), German Tamara Korpatsch (6-3, 6-2), Russian wildcard Vera Zvonareva (7-5, 4-6, 6-1) and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 1-6, 6-2).
Shnaider, ranked No 85, defeated Chinese qualifier Zhuoxuan Bai (6-4, 1-6, 6-2), Kamilla Rakhimova (6-3, 6-2), second seed Petra Kvitova (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) and Linda Fruhvirtova (6-4, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
Jabeur will now turn her attention to the final 1000-level event of the season in Beijing, which is already underway in the Chinese capital.
