Ningbo Open: Haddad Maia sets up Badosa clash in quarter-finals
The Brazilian won against Katie Boulter 7-6 (2), 7-5 in the second round on Thursday
Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 6 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Ningbo Open by winning against Katie Boulter 7-6 (2), 7-5 at the Yinzhou Tennis Center on Thursday.
This was the Brazilian’s first win in four meetings against Boulter, all of which have come in 2024. She has also now won 16 of her last 20 matches on the tour, including a quarter-final finish at the US Open and winning the Korea Open title.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 10, will play Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 8 seed, next in the quarter-finals, her seventh of the 2024 season. The pair have split their two previous meetings on the tour.
In the previous round of the tournament, Boulter, ranked No 35, beat Italian qualifier Sara Errani (6-3, 6-2).
