Ningbo Open: Andreeva moves past injured Krejcikova to reach semis
Mirra Andreeva will play the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 7 seed, and Karolina Muchova next
Russian Mirra Andreeva reached the semi-finals of the Ningbo Open when No 4 seed Barbora Krejcikova retired at the Yinzhou Tennis Center on Friday.
Andreeva, ranked No 19, led 7-6 (5), 3-2 when Krejcikova, ranked No 13, pulled out with discomfort in the lower back area.
The set-and-a-half-long battle extended beyond 90 minutes, with the players breaking each other thrice. They exchanged rallies for 125 points, out of which Andreeva claimed 65.
The 17-year-old Russian will play the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 7 seed, and Karolina Muchova next.
Ahead of her victory, Mirra Andreeva defeated American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko (6-2, 6-0) and German lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch (6-0, 6-4).
Barbora Krejcikova won against Chinese lucky loser YeXin Ma (7-6 (5), 6-3) in the previous round of the Ningbo tournament.
