Kazakh Yulia Putintseva moved into the last eight of the National Bank Open by winning against American Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-3, 7-5 at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Thursday evening.
Putintseva, ranked No 46, will face American Jessica Pegula, the No 7 seed, next.
The Kazakh edged out Canadian wildcard Katherine Sebov (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) and benefited from the abandonment of Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 4 seed (7-5, 1-0) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Riske-Amritraj, ranked No 35, beat Czech Petra Kvitova (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) and edged out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 16 seed (7-6 (2), 0-6, 7-5).
