Italian Camila Giorgi moved into the second round of the National Bank Open by winning against No 9 seed Emma Raducanu 7-6, 6-2 at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Tuesday.
Giorgi, ranked No 29, will face Belgian Elise Mertens next.
