Portuguese Francisca Jorge moved into the last 16 of the MundoTenis Open when Russian Ekaterina Makarova retired on Tuesday afternoon.
Jorge, ranked No 189, led 2-6, 7-6 (5), 4-0 when Makarova, ranked No 193, pulled out on Tuesday.
The Portuguese will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, next.
