Australian Storm Hunter won against American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to move into the final of the Mumbai Open at the Cricket Club of India on Saturday.
Hunter, ranked No 150, will face the winner of the match between Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 6 seed, and Dutchwoman Arianne Hartono next.
Ahead of her victory, the Australian beat Hungarian qualifier Fanny Stollar (3-0 ret.), Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-3) and Russian Alina Korneeva (W/O).
Volynets, ranked No 113, defeated Indian wildcard Ankita Raina (6-4, 6-2), Indian wildcard Rutuja Bhosale (7-6 (8), 2-6, 6-1) and lucky loser Sohyun Park (6-1, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
