Muguruza enjoying break from WTA Tour: “Tennis has no place in my routine”
The 30-year-old Spaniard has not played since January and though she previously said she will return in 2024, she is enjoying her time away off the court
Garbine Muguruza says tennis is simply not on her mind as she enjoys time away from the Tour.
The two-time Grand Slam champion has not played since February and though she previously said she intends to return in 2024, she says she is relishing every moment not being a professional tennis player.
“Tennis has no place in my routine,” the 30-year-old said, in an interview with Women’s Health Magazine. “I still pay attention to my peers, from time to time I can play but not intensely, more for fun. It doesn’t occupy my mind, my day or my routines, I’m really taking a real break and trying to stay away from the court.
“I am living this break very happily since it was something that my body and my mind needed so I am really enjoying these moments,” she said.
The former Wimbledon and Roland-Garros champion said she is staying fit but would not be ready for tennis yet.
“My motivation is always very high, but in a world as competitive as high-level tennis, I hold on very strongly to the fact that if I don’t train, my opponents will and they will beat me because they will be more prepared.
