Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 8 seed, has fired a warning shot to the rest of the Mubadala Citi DC Open field by demolishing former world No 7 Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-3 on Monday afternoon.
The world No 18 required just over an hour to dispatch the American wildcard, breaking her opponents four times courtesy of eight double faults by Collins.
Samsonova, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between Romanian Sorana Cirstea and Croat Petra Martic next.
