Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 8 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Mubadala Citi DC Open by defeating Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday night.
Samsonova, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against American wildcard Danielle Collins (6-1, 6-3).
Cirstea, ranked No 32, beat Croat Petra Martic (6-3, 7-6 (13)) in the previous round.
