American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, edged out Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Mubadala Citi DC Open on Friday evening.
Pegula, ranked No 4, will face the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 4 seed, and American Madison Keys, the No 7 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the American beat lucky loser Peyton Stearns (6-3, 6-4).
Svitolina, ranked No 27, won against Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (7-6 (2), 6-4) and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 5 seed (6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
