American qualifier Katie Volynets edged out qualifier Sonay Kartal 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council on Monday.
Volynets, ranked No 68, will play top seed Elena Rybakina next.
