Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 6 seed, won against Chinese wildcard Xiyu Wang 6-2, 7-6 (4) to advance to the second round of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City on Monday afternoon.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 13, will face the winner of the match between Filipino wildcard Alexandra Eala and Pole Magda Linette next.
