American Sloane Stephens, the second seed, reached the last 16 of the Morocco Open by defeating wildcard Vera Zvonareva (7-5, 6-4) at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat on Monday evening.

Stephens, ranked No 35, will face the winner of the match between Hungarian Timea Babos and Russian Irina Khromacheva next.
