Morocco Open: Riera upsets Sherif, plays Putintseva in quarters
The Argentine plays Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed, in the next round
Argentine Julia Riera reached the last eight of the Morocco Open by defeating Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 3 seed, 7-5, 7-5 at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat on Wednesday.
Riera, ranked No 195, will face Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed, next.
The 20-year-old Argentinian won against Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic (6-3, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Rabat Grand Prix, Sherif, ranked No 55, won against Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl (6-1, 6-3).
