Morocco Open: Bronzetti through to last four

Italian Lucia Bronzetti edged out Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 3 seed, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) to reach the semi-finals of the WTA Morocco Open at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat on Thursday evening.

Lucia Bronzetti, ranked No 83, will play Italian Martina Trevisan in the last four.

Prior to Thursday’s win, the Italian defeated Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel (6-3, 6-2).

Parrizas Diaz, ranked No 48, won against Canadian qualifier Carol Zhao (7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-2) and Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic (4-6, 6-3, 6-0) earlier in the tournament.

American Clare Liu will take on fifth seed Anna Bondar in the other semi-final.
