Canadian Open: Second semi-final rescheduled for Sunday, Rybakina or Samsonova to play final on same day
Elena Rybakina vs Liudmila Samsonova has been postponed to Sunday, with the winner having to play back-to-back matches
The Montreal rain continues to be a menace for the Canadian Open’s schedule this year, as the second semi-final between Elena Rybakina and Liudmila Samsonova has been delayed until Sunday due to rain.
This rescheduling means that the winner of this match will be forced to contest two matches in one day, with the semi-final and final currently set just four hours apart in the tournament’s order of play.
It goes without saying that this hands an enormous advantage to Jessica Pegula, who earlier today navigated a three-set match against world No 1 Iga Swiatek before the poor weather set in.
Rybakina and Samsonova were not so lucky, however, with the two spending hours in limbo before the evening session was finally called off in Montreal.
