Zarazua edges out Parry to win in Montevideo for first WTA 125 title
Renata Zarazua won the title on Sunday evening against Diane Parry.
Mexican Renata Zarazua, the second seed, won the Montevideo Open trophy by edging out Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday evening.
The 26-year-old won after two hours, 45 minutes to claim her first WTA 125 title, a win that means she rises to a career-high ranking of No 105.
Zarazua beat American qualifier Haley Giavara (6-0, 7-5), Romanian qualifier Gabriela Lee (6-0, 6-0), Romanian Miriam Bulgaru, the No 6 seed (6-2, 6-2) and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 5 seed (6-1, 2-6, 7-5).
Parry, ranked No 94, defeated Russian Amina Anshba (7-5, 6-3), Greek Despina Papamichail (6-1, 6-2), Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-0) and American Robin Montgomery (7-6 (5), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
