Parry misses out on first title in Montevideo
Renata Zarazua won the tournament on Sunday evening against Diane Parry.
Mexican Renata Zarazua, the second seed, won the Montevideo Open title by edging out Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday evening.
Ahead of her victory, Zarazua, ranked No 128, defeated American qualifier Haley Giavara (6-0, 7-5), Romanian qualifier Gabriela Lee (6-0, 6-0), Romanian Miriam Bulgaru, the No 6 seed (6-2, 6-2) and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 5 seed (6-1, 2-6, 7-5).
Parry, ranked No 94, beat Russian Amina Anshba (7-5, 6-3), Greek Despina Papamichail (6-1, 6-2), Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-0) and American Robin Montgomery (7-6 (5), 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Uruguayan tournament.
