Croat Donna Vekic, the No 3 seed, reached the second round of the Monterrey Open when Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko retired at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Tuesday night.
Vekic, ranked No 31, led 2-6, 5-0 when Tsurenko, ranked No 98, pulled out at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Tuesday night.
The Croat will play the winner of the match between American wildcard Emma Navarro and Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean next.
