Svitolina enters Monterrey Open last eight
Elina Svitolina defeated Elina Avanesyan 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday and will play Linda Noskova in the Monterrey Open quarter-finals
Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina moved into the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open by beating Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan 6-4, 6-3 at Sonoma Club on Wednesday.
Svitolina saved one break point and converted four on Avanesyan’s serve during the match.
The first set saw several ups and downs as the two players broke each other back and forth. Svitolina, however, edged past Avanesyan with one extra break point conversion.
In the second set, Svitolina produced disciplined tennis and claimed the win by breaking the Armenian once.
Svitolina, the world No 28, will face Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic next. Noskova, the sixth seed, defeated China’s Wang Xiyu 6-4, 7-6(11) in her second round effort.
Svitolina and Noskova faced each other for the first time in the fourth round of the 2024 Australian Open. Their battle ended prematurely as the Ukrainian retired with lower back problems while trailing 3-0 in the first set.
