Sun battles into Monterrey quarter-finals
Lulu Sun outlasted Maria Lourdes Carle in a third-set tiebreak on Wednesday in Monterrey. Sun will face Erika Andreeva in the next round.
Lulu Sun advanced to the last eight of the Monterrey Open by scraping past Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2) at Sonoma Club on Wednesday night.
Sun, ranked No 57, will face Russian Erika Andreeva next.
The New Zealander got the best of Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet (7-6 (3), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round of the Monterrey tournament, Carle — ranked No 86 — edged out Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed (1-6, 7-5, 6-4).
