Monterrey Open: Sun runner-up, beaten by Noskova
Linda Noskova won the final on Sunday night against Lulu Sun
New Zealander Lulu Sun was defeated by the No 6 seed Linda Noskova (6-7 (6), 4-6) at Sonoma Club on Sunday night. Sun was broken in her first service game, but did manage to take the first set to a tiebreak, before not capitalising on two set points. In the second set, a single break separated the two women, with Noskova being the more confident player on serve.
Noskova, ranked No 35, beat Kazakh qualifier Anna Danilina (6-0, 6-1), Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-4, 7-6 (11)), Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-4) and American Emma Navarro, the second seed (7-6 (7), 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Monterrey tournament, Sun, ranked No 57, beat Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet (7-6 (3), 6-3), Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2)), Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-3) and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 3 seed (7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6)).
