Navarro edges out Osoria to make Monterrey Open quarters
Emma Navarro to face Magdalena Frech in the Monterrey Open last eight
Emma Navarro from the United States edged out Colombia’s Camila Osorio 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2) to reach the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open at Sonoma Club on Wednesday.
Navarro and Osorio battled hard as the two broke each other five times during the three-setter that stretched to two hours and 50 minutes. This was notably their first meeting on the tour.
The American entered the Monterrey draw as the second seed and received a bye in the first round. Osorio, on the other hand, beat Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2, 7-6 (3) in her opener.
The world No 13, will clash with Poland’s Magdalena Frech next.
In terms of head-to-head, Navarro is tied with the Pole at 1-1. The two battled for the first time in the opening round of the 2023 US Open, where Frech claimed a 7-6(10), 1-6, 6-2 win. Navarro responded with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the second round of Hobart International in January this year.
