Monastir Open: Mertens into the quarter-finals
Elise Mertens defeated Despina Papamichail 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic, the No 4 seed, and Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima in the next round

Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed, won against Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Monastir Open at the Monastir Tennis Club on Wednesday evening.
Mertens, ranked No 42, will face the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic, the No 4 seed, and Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima next.
In the previous round of the Jasmin Open Tunisia, the Belgian beat Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-1, 6-1). Papamichail, ranked No 175, won against Chinese Lin Zhu (1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-0)
