WTA Midland Open: Townsend books spot in quarter-finals
The American will face the winner of the match between Croat Jana Fett and Canadian Rebecca Marino in the next round
American Taylor Townsend, the No 4 seed, reached the last eight of the WTA Midland Open by winning against Ukrainian Yulia Starodubtsewa 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Townsend, ranked No 66 in the world, will face the winner of the match between Croat Jana Fett and Canadian Rebecca Marino next. The left-hander is one of three Americans into the last eight in Midland with two all-American second round clashes still to take place.
Ahead of her win today, the American beat Cypriot Raluka Serban (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) while Starodubtsewa defeated American wildcard Sophie Chang (3-6, 6-1, 6-0) in the previous round.
