Midland Open: Parks into semi-finals, plays Kalinskaya next
The American beat Katherine Sebov 7-5, 6-1 to end a three-match losing streak to the Canadian
American Alycia Parks, the No 3 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Midland Open by beating Canadian Katherine Sebov 7-5, 6-1 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Friday.
The last time the two players met, it ended controversially with Sebov allegedly squeezing Parks’ hand during the post-match handshake.
Parks, ranked No 54, will play Russian Anna Kalinskaya next.
In the previous rounds of the tournament, the 22-year-old American won against Ann Li (6-2, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Carole Monnet (6-3, 6-2).
Sebov, ranked No 141, edged out Swiss qualifier Lulu Sun (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) and defeated American Ashlyn Krueger, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-0) earlier in the week.
