Frenchwoman Carole Monnet reached the second round of the Midland Open when Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich retired on Monday evening at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
Carole Monnet led 6-4 when Shymanovich, ranked No 168, pulled out at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Monday evening.
The 21-year-old Frenchwoman will face the winner of the match between Ann Li and No 3 seed Alycia Parks next.
