Hailey Baptiste defeated second seed Peyton Stearns 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-2 to reach the last 8 of the Midland Open at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
Baptiste, ranked No 136, will face the winner of the match between Tatiana Prozorova and Anna Kalinskaya next.
Ahead of her victory, Hailey Baptiste won against qualifier Victoria Hu (7-5, 7-5).
Stearns, ranked No 48, won against Andorran lucky loser Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-0, 6-0) in the previous round of the Midland tournament.
