Maria Sakkari benefited from the forfeit of Anna Kalinskaya on Monday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between American Madison Keys, the No 17 seed, and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, in the next round
Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed, reached the last eight of the Miami Open after Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 22 seed, withdrew before the match at the Hard Rock Stadium on Monday.
Sakkari, ranked No 9, will play the winner of the match between American Madison Keys, the No 17 seed, and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, next.
“Hi everybody! I’m so sorry, I was really looking forward to playing today. But unfortunately, my health doesn’t allow me. Thank you for your support,” said Kalinina, who was suffering from a right thigh injury.

Earlier in the tournament, Kalinskaya, ranked No 25, won against Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-2, 6-2) and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 9 seed (6-3, 6-1).
