Miami Open: Gracheva ends lucky loser Frech’s run to reach fourth round
The Russian will face the winner of the match between Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 15 seed, and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 22 seed, in the next round
Russian qualifier Varvara Gracheva defeated Polish lucky loser Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
Gracheva, ranked No 54 in the world, will face the winner of the match between Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 15 seed, and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 22 seed, next.
In the earlier rounds of the Miami tournament, the 22-year-old Russian won against Belgian Maryna Zanevska (6-1, 7-5) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed (6-2, 6-2).
Frech, ranked No 105 in the world, won against Russian wildcard Erika Andreeva (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) earlier in the week.
