Mérida Open: Sonmez moves into quarter-finals
Zeynep Sonmez beat Elsa Jacquemot 7-6 (3), 6-3 on Thursday night and will face the winner of the match between Mexican Renata Zarazua, the top seed, and Pole qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the next round

Zeynep Sonmez defeated Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach the last eight of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Thursday night.
Sonmez, ranked No 127, will play the winner of the match between Mexican Renata Zarazua, the top seed, and Pole qualifier Maja Chwalinska next.
In the previous round of the Mérida tournament, Zeynep Sonmez won against Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 6 seed (5-7, 6-1, 6-2).
Jacquemot, ranked No 148, edged out American Robin Montgomery (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4)) in the previous round of the Mérida tournament.
