Mérida Open: Li advances to quarter-finals

American Ann Li defeated Croat Antonia Ruzic 6-2, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Wednesday.

Li, ranked No 111, will face Swiss Jil Teichmann next.

In the previous round of the Mérida tournament, the American won against Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz, the No 8 seed (6-0, 6-4).

Ruzic, ranked No 165, beat wildcard Laura Samson (6-4, 6-4) during the first round of the Mérida tournament.
