American Varvara Lepchenko defeated Slovenian qualifier Tamara Zidansek 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Tuesday.
Lepchenko, ranked No 144, will play the winner of the match between Russian Polina Kudermetova and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the second seed, next.
