Mérida Open: Kudermetova reaches quarter-finals

Russian Polina Kudermetova beat American Varvara Lepchenko 6-3, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Thursday evening.
Kudermetova, ranked No 133, will play Serb Nina Stojanovic next.
The 21-year-old Russian won against Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the second seed (6-1, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Mérida tournament, Lepchenko, ranked No 144, won against Slovenian qualifier Tamara Zidansek (6-2, 6-2).
