Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot edged out American Robin Montgomery 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to move into the second round of the Mérida Open at the Yucatan Country Club on Monday evening.
Jacquemot, ranked No 148, will face the winner of the match between Zeynep Sonmez and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 6 seed, next.
