Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 4 seed, beat Croat Lucija Ciric Bagaric 7-5, 7-6 (6) to move into the last eight of the Makarska Open on Thursday evening.
Wang, ranked No 61, will play No 6 seed Brenda Fruhvirtova next.
The Chinese won against Croat qualifier Sara Svetac (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Ciric Bagaric, ranked No 184, won against German Ella Seidel (0-6, 6-3, 6-1).
