American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, beat Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to lift the Makarska Open trophy on Sunday evening.
Ahead of her victory, Volynets, ranked No 108, defeated Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich (6-3, 6-0), New Zealander Lulu Sun (6-4, 7-5), Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-3).
Sherif, ranked No 53, beat Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 6-3), Russian qualifier Maria Timofeeva (6-2, 3-6, 7-5), Japanese Nao Hibino, the No 7 seed (6-1, 6-3) and Croat Petra Martic, the No 5 seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
