Russian qualifier Maria Timofeeva won against Filipino Alexandra Eala 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of the Makarska Open on Wednesday.
Timofeeva, ranked No 105, will face Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, next.
