Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, advanced to the last eight of the Makarska Open by edging out Russian qualifier Maria Timofeeva 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 on Thursday.
Sherif, ranked No 53, will face Japanese Nao Hibino, the No 7 seed, next.
In the previous round, the Egyptian won against Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 6-3).
Timofeeva, ranked No 105, beat Filipino Alexandra Eala (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the previous round.
