Ekaterina Makarova moved into the last 16 of the Makarska Open when Julia Avdeeva retired on Tuesday.
Makarova, ranked No 172, led 6-2, 5-0 when Avdeeva, ranked No 208, pulled out on Tuesday.
Ekaterina Makarova will play the winner of the match between Swiss Simona Waltert and No 6 seed Brenda Fruhvirtova next.
