Australian qualifier Maya Joint moved into the quarter-finals of the Makarska Open by winning against Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday afternoon.
Joint, ranked No 192, will face the winner of the match between No 5 seed Petra Martic and Lea Boskovic next.
Ahead of her victory, the 18-year-old Australian defeated Croat Antonia Ruzic (6-1, 6-1).
Schmiedlova, ranked No 54, beat Slovenian Polona Hercog (6-0, 6-3) in the previous round.
